Academically able children
They might:
- have achieved well in the previous key stage
- be making better than expected progress
- be one of the top attainers in school at the moment
Talented children
They might:
- Be creative and artistic
- Play a musical instrument well
- Play sport at a high level
What do we do with our More Able pupils?
- Track their progress and achievement throughout the year
- Provide visits and match opportunities to the needs and talents of the pupils
- Provide educational and careers guidance at key points including transition between KS2 and KS5
Here are some of the opportunities our pupils were offered this year:
- Higher Project Qualification at LSC
- Debate Chamber weekends to study Medicine at University of London
- How to get into Russell Group Universities (George Monoux College and PiXL)
- Weekend residentials and Easter Schools for the exceptionally able run by GIFT
- Summer Schools run by the University of Westminster
- 1:1 mentoring and careers advice in y9 and y11
- Science and Maths Challenge (y7-9) with visiting university students
- Tutor time programmes including:
- Observational drawing (y7)
- Costume and sets for school production (y8)
- Performing Shakespeare in the up-coming school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (y9)
- Critical thinking and preparing for University (y10)
- Year 5 Maths challenge
- Year 4 Technology and Languages project
What do we continue to do with our More Able pupils?
- Ensure that more KS1 pupils achieve level 3; more KS2 pupils achieve level 5 and 6; more KS4 pupils achieve A*
- Further increase aspirations of all pupils
- Celebrate our success
